Job summary

Sonoco Products Company is seeking an Engineer II to lead automation and control projects in Hartsville, SC. You will work with operations, maintenance and engineering to design, implement and commission control systems across packaging lines.

The role requires strong PLC, HMI and DCS experience, with a focus on reliability, safety and productivity in a manufacturing setting. Travel between sites is possible as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering.
• Experience with PLC programming including ladder logic, function diagrams and structured text.
• Rockwell/Allen Bradley and Siemens experience is a plus.
• Experience with AC/DC drives and motor control systems.
• Knowledge of control system networks and communication protocols.
• HMI configuration and programming experience.
• DCS and continuous process controls with field instrumentation and valves.
• Autocad for power plans and control diagrams.
• Good oral and written communication skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Act as project lead for automation and control projects.
• Collaborate with engineers, operations, maintenance and contractors.
• Create documentation for bidding, installation, startup and maintenance.
• Provide commissioning and startup support for controls projects.
• Maintain a project funnel for upgrades and modernization.
• Support process engineers to optimize control performance.
• Guide maintenance on controls related work orders.
• Train staff on automation and control systems.
