Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a hands-on Project Lead to head field installation teams deploying fiber optic infrastructure for a large data center in Haskell, TX. You will oversee crews, coordinate schedules, and ensure safety and quality on a fast-paced construction site.

The role is a 4-month contract with conversion to full-time after four months. Per diem, lodging, and meals are provided by the client, with ongoing collaboration with project managers and network deployment pros.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing experience.
  • Experience leading field crews on commercial/industrial projects.
  • Strong understanding of SMF/MMF fiber infrastructure.
  • Experience terminating/testing LC/SC/ST/FC and MPO/MTP connectors.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and fiber schematics.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work in active construction environments and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, label, and test fiber systems in a large-scale data center.
  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of SMF/MMF fiber.
  • Build and commission telecom spaces including racks and patch panels.
  • Conduct OTDR, loss, continuity, and fiber certification testing.
  • Analyze test results and resolve connectivity issues.
  • Review drawings and specs to support project execution.
  • Lead daily safety meetings and ensure site safety protocols.
  • Complete work orders, material tracking, timesheets, and change orders.

Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Project Lead to support the buildout of a large-scale data center environment in Haskell, TX. This individual will lead field installation teams responsible for deploying and commissioning critical fiber optic infrastructure that supports mission-critical network operations.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in fiber installation, testing, and splicing with proven leadership experience managing crews, driving project schedules, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring safe execution in a fast-paced construction environment. This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering cutting-edge data center infrastructure while working alongside project managers, construction teams, and network deployment professionals.

This role is a 4-month contract with a conversion to fulltime with the client after 4 months. 5 working days per week with a 6 day per diem for $140/day. All lodging in Haskell and 3 meals per day is covered by the client.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise multiple fiber installation crews across active project areas
  • Serve as the primary field liaison between technicians, project management, and site leadership
  • Coordinate daily work activities to ensure milestones, schedules, and project budgets remain on track
  • Install, terminate, label, and test fiber optic cabling systems within a large-scale data center environment
  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber systems
  • Build and commission telecommunications spaces, including racks, patch panels, fiber enclosures, and cross-connect infrastructure
  • Conduct OTDR, insertion loss, continuity, and fiber certification testing
  • Analyze test results, troubleshoot deficiencies, and resolve connectivity issues
  • Calculate and validate fiber loss budgets in accordance with industry standards and project requirements
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure installation accuracy and compliance with design specifications
  • Lead daily safety meetings and maintain strict adherence to site and company safety protocols
  • Complete project documentation including work orders, material tracking, timesheets, change orders, and testing records
  • Review construction drawings, fiber schematics, and technical documentation to support successful project execution
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing experience
  • Experience leading field crews, foremen teams, or installation teams on commercial or industrial projects
  • Strong understanding of single-mode (SMF) and multi-mode (MMF) fiber infrastructure
  • Experience terminating and testing fiber connector types including LC, SC, ST, FC, and MPO/MTP
  • Hands-on experience with fusion splicing and mechanical splicing techniques
  • Proficiency using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, and fiber certification equipment
  • strong troubleshooting skills related to fiber network performance and connectivity issues
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, fiber diagrams, and project specifications
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work in active construction environments, elevated areas, and confined spaces
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and materials up to 50 pounds
  • High School Diploma or GED
