Job summary

Archetype Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Data Center Splicer to install, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling in mission‑critical data centers. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and teamwork in fast‑paced environments.

The candidate should have 2+ years of fiber optic splicing experience, be able to read project drawings, and be willing to travel as needed. Equipment and documentation responsibilities are included to support ongoing data center expansions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical fiber optics training preferred.
• 2+ years of fiber optic splicing experience in data center or mission-critical environments.
• Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment, OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fiber inspection scopes.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and splice diagrams.
• Knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and best practices for structured cabling.

Responsibilities

• Perform fusion and ribbon splicing and termination of singlemode and multimode fiber.
• Install, route, dress, and secure fiber cabling per specs and industry standards.
• Test fiber systems using OTDRs, power meters, and light sources.
• Interpret drawings, splice matrices, cable schedules, and network diagrams.
• Label, document, and maintain records of fiber routes and test results.
• Troubleshoot and repair fiber systems; ensure proper cable management.
• Follow site safety protocols and coordinate with project teams.

Position Summary

The Data Center Splicer is responsible for the installation, splicing, termination, testing, and documentation of fiber optic cabling systems within mission‑critical data center environments. The position ensures all fiber infrastructure is installed and maintained to the highest quality standards while supporting new construction, expansions, and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, safety‑conscious, and experienced in working within fast‑paced, high‑availability environments.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, and termination of singlemode and multimode fiber optic cables.
• Install, route, dress, and secure fiber optic cabling in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Test fiber optic systems using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, and other fiber testing equipment.
• Interpret construction drawings, splice matrices, cable schedules, and network diagrams.
• Label, document, and maintain accurate records of fiber routes, splice results, and test reports.
• Troubleshoot and repair damaged or underperforming fiber optic systems.
• Ensure cable management and installation practices meet customer and company quality standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, especially within active data center environments.
• Follow all site‑specific safety protocols, security procedures, and change management processes.
• Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and other trades to ensure project milestones are achieved.
• Inspect tools and equipment to ensure proper operation and perform routine maintenance as needed.
• Support commissioning activities and customer acceptance testing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training in fiber optics or telecommunications preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of fiber optic splicing experience, preferably in data center, telecommunications, or mission‑critical environments.
• Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment, OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fiber inspection scopes.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, splice diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and industry best practices for structured cabling and fiber installations.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast‑paced environments.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or elevated locations as required.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, when project schedules require.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
• Fiber optic certifications (CFOT, FOA, BICSI, or equivalent) are preferred but not required.
