Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Create project estimates for Solare and BESS projects.
  2. Complete quantity takeoffs, summarize material proposal comparisons, and prepare estimate summary sheets.
  3. Solicit bid estimates from trade contractors.
  4. Identify and invite new bidders as needed, gathering necessary documents for future projects.
  5. Collaborate regularly with Engineering to support new technology and innovation initiatives, considering cost and other commercial factors.
  6. Coordinate with Project Controls to track actual costs versus estimates and update estimate databases accordingly.
  7. Prepare contractor and vendor proposal comparisons and estimate summaries for various construction scopes, such as mechanical, electrical, and civil works.
  8. Assist in preparing, organizing, and coordinating Request for Proposal (RFP) documents and schedules, using schedule data to estimate general conditions and other schedule-driven items.
  9. Determine appropriate project pricing and evaluate value engineering opportunities.
  10. Support project estimators in data entry and maintenance within estimating software.
  11. Conduct archive filing and gather historical cost data.
  12. Assist business analysts in analyzing pricing trends for future projections.
  13. Participate as a member of the project team.
  14. Attend plan and estimate review meetings, project reviews, and site investigations as needed.
  15. Assist bid managers in collecting information from local government and private entities that may impact the project (e.g., permits, licenses).
  16. Provide guidance to new estimators and engineers joining the company.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or Project Management; 5+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Experience estimating Solar and BESS projects, with construction background.
  3. Experience estimating civil and site preparation costs, including foundations, trenching, stormwater management, and general site productivity, considering site-specific geotechnical, hydrological, and climate data.
  4. Experience with projects exceeding 50MWdc or 100MWhr.
  5. Knowledge of industry-related EPC operations and procedures.
  6. Project field engineering experience.
  7. Experience in estimating interconnect, substation, and gen-tie costs.
  8. Understanding of EPC estimating practices and methods, with ability to organize, perform, and present cost estimates.
  9. Skill in calculating productivity-based labor rates and assessing civil, subsurface, and stormwater conditions impacts.
  10. Deep knowledge of project scheduling and ability to predict/extrapolate cost curves based on schedule-activity data.
  11. Familiarity with manual labor performance, equipment productivity, and deriving labor rates.
  12. Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Work is performed in an office and field setting. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist, and lift up to 20 pounds.
