Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Project Engineering Manager to lead large-scale engineering projects in the pork and packaged meat industry. You will guide design, development, and implementation of innovative solutions, manage a team of engineers (directly or indirectly), and assess risks to keep projects on track for successful delivery.

The role emphasizes leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and strong engineering fundamentals, with travel to different sites about 50% of the time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
• 2+ years of leadership experience including team development and management.
• Apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.
• Knowledge of installation and construction project scheduling.
• Project Management and Contract Administration skills; interpretation of national codes and standards.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and oral communication, planning, teamwork, and adaptability.
• Willingness to travel to other locations (about 50%).

Responsibilities

• Design engineering work: develop designs, specs, and cost estimates; conduct feasibility and economic analyses; ensure standards and codes compliance; review submissions and manage vendor/contractor coordination.
• Design implementation: plan layouts with vendors, review consultants, maintain docs and contacts.
• Prepare reports and evaluate proposals; define scope and monitor project status.
• Bid review and project prep: contract administration, budget analyses, schedules, and installations within budget.
• People management: lead and coach engineers for development and performance.
