Job description

Position Summary

The Manager, Project Engineering provides engineering and technical support to plant operations. The role focuses on modifying existing baking and packaging processes, implementing new processes and equipment, and reducing manufacturing costs while maintaining or improving product quality. The manager is responsible for delivering agreed scope, budget, and timelines for assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute capital projects, including project plans, budgets, and capital requests.
  • Develop detailed equipment specifications.
  • Prepare request for proposal (RFP) documents and select vendors.
  • Manage vendor and construction activities, including change control.
  • Oversee installation, troubleshooting, and training activities.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet all design criteria.
  • Support plant personnel with root‑cause analysis and equipment performance analysis.
  • Participate in plant process improvement activities, including equipment performance analysis, troubleshooting, and development of optimal settings and operating parameters.
  • Develop capacity plans and recommend alternatives to address shortfalls.
  • Perform job responsibilities with minimal day‑to‑day oversight.
Key Competencies
  • Track record of managing multiple projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience improving performance of existing equipment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence others.
  • Knowledge of commonly used process control and improvement tools.
  • Well organized and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects with high quality.
  • Willingness to travel 50–70% of the time; flexibility to travel to various plants in the US and Canada.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating competency).
  • 5–7 years of engineering experience, preferably in food, pharmaceutical, or consumer goods industries.
  • Experience with Auto‑CAD drawings.
  • Computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Project for tracking project status.
  • Experience managing large projects (1million dollars or more in assets).
  • Controls systems experience, including PLCs, drives, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and familiarity with Allen Bradley, Siemens, Rockwell, and other brands (preferred).
Physical Demands

The role requires frequent use of communication tools, a notebook computer, and standard office equipment. Employees must be able to sit, stand, stoop, and coordinate hand movements regularly, and use various forms of transportation for extended periods on a periodic basis.
