Job summary

Waukegan Steel is seeking a Project Engineer to support the Project Management team through the full project lifecycle, from kickoff to closeout. This role focuses on scheduling, coordination, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and daily project execution.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to build a career in structural steel fabrication and construction within the Midwest.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to read architectural and structural drawings, blueprints and shop drawing packages.
• Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers from project award through closeout.
• Assist with project scheduling, coordination, and execution activities.
• Coordinate and track shop drawing submissions and approvals.
• Process and track submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation.
• Assist with project billing and support AIA billing processes (G702/G703).
• Coordinate with customers, architects, engineers, detailers, vendors, and field personnel.
• Monitor project milestones, deliverables, and schedules.
• Support field measuring, site visits, and project closeout activities as needed.
