ABOUT THE JOB

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Project Engineer - Mechanical who participates in project design from the conceptual phase to the construction phase. This role collaborates with various project teams to develop, refine, and update design criteria and direction. The role is also responsible for generating engineering plans, specifications, and, where applicable, cost estimates.

This position is ideal for upcoming May 2025 graduates or recent graduates in applicable fields. As Tepa continues to grow, we focus on hiring recent graduates for career development through hands-on learning, mentorship, and growth opportunities. This is an entry-level position that requires completed education in the relevant discipline but no prior experience.

Job Functions:

  1. Make decisions independently with supervision and guidance mainly on overall objectives and results.
  2. Define project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  3. Perform Mechanical Engineer tasks on MEP projects, including preliminary investigations, scoping, budgeting, and identifying project execution methods.
  4. Develop schematic, 30%, 60%, and 100% design documents, technical specifications, construction plans, and bid packages.
  5. Simulate and model building HVAC and energy systems.
  6. Design HVAC systems, including code review, load calculations, and equipment sizing.
  7. Create designs, layouts, and plans conforming to codes and standards from preliminary sketches and diagrams.
  8. Support HVAC projects, including retrofit and new installations, client and contractor interfacing, cost estimation, energy audits, and system upgrades.
  9. Assist during construction with site visits, submittal reviews, and RFIs.
  10. Maintain good relations with team members and clients.
  11. Prepare technical reports, calculations, and recommendations.
  12. Produce plans, reports, and specifications as needed.
  13. Estimate project costs.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in architectural engineering (preferred) or mechanical engineering or similar from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • One internship in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of design best practices.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to prepare reports and proposals.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM.
  • Experience with Trane Trace or Carrier HAP.
  • Federal project design experience is a plus.
