ABOUT THE JOB

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Project Engineer - Mechanical who participates in project design from the conceptual phase to the construction phase. This role collaborates with various project teams to develop, refine, and update design criteria and direction. It is responsible for generating engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates where applicable.

This position is ideal for upcoming May 2025 graduates or recent graduates in relevant fields. As Tepa continues to grow, we focus on hiring recent graduates to start their careers with opportunities for hands-on learning, mentorship, and growth. This is an entry-level position requiring completed education in the relevant discipline, but no prior experience.

Job Functions:
  1. Make decisions independently, with supervision mainly on overall objectives and results.
  2. Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  3. Perform tasks related to Mechanical Engineering on MEP projects, including preliminary investigations, scoping, budgeting, and identifying project execution methods.
  4. Develop schematic, 30%, 60%, and 100% design phase documents, specifications, construction plans, and bid packages.
  5. Simulate and model building HVAC and energy systems.
  6. Design HVAC systems, review building codes, perform load calculations, and size equipment.
  7. Create designs, layouts, and plans in conformance with codes and standards from sketches and diagrams.
  8. Support HVAC projects, interface with clients and contractors, estimate costs, conduct energy audits, identify conservation measures, and handle upgrades and controls.
  9. Assist during construction through site visits, submittal reviews, and RFIs.
  10. Maintain effective internal and external relations.
  11. Prepare technical reports, calculations, and recommendations.
  12. Produce non-routine plans, reports, and specifications.
  13. Prepare cost estimates.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in architectural engineering (preferred) or mechanical engineering or similar from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • One internship in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of design best practices.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to prepare reports and proposals.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM.
  • Experience with Trane Trace or Carrier HAP software.
  • Previous federal project design experience is a plus.
