Job summary

Victaulic in Easton, PA seeks a Project Engineer - Materials Technology to drive development and commercialization of advanced materials across product lines, including thermosets, coatings, composites, and metals. Qualifications

• BS in Chemical, Materials, or Polymer Engineering (MS a plus).
• 2–5 years of experience in material selection, testing, and validation.
• Knowledge of polymeric material testing and failure analysis.
• Ability to travel globally up to 20%.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

YOUR IMPACT STARTS HERE

We’re looking for a Project Engineer - Materials Technology to join our Corporate Engineering team in Easton, PA. In this role, you’ll drive the development and commercialization of products that leverage advanced materials - thermosets, coatings, composites, thermoplastics, and metallic alloys - across our product lines. You’ll gain hands-on experience in plastic part product design, polymer processing, and instrumental analysis of chemicals and polymers (FTIR, DMA, DSC, TGA, Tensile, and more), while leading multi-departmental teams from detailed design through commercialization.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD & OWN

• - Lead concept generation and develop specific design ideas to satisfy product concepts
• - Model concepts through drawings and/or hardware, and present and communicate ideas clearly to stakeholders
• - Partner with Marketing and Sales to refine concepts to meet customer requirements
• - Estimate initial design costs and prepare project and/or procurement authorizations
• - Formulate new polymers that meet customer specifications
• - Participate in supplier selection, in-house or outsourced
• - Oversee prototyping and testing against requirements, including thermal, mechanical, and chemical analysis
• - Solve design problems and resolve tolerance issues
• - Scrutinize and review detailed cost estimates
• - Lead design reviews to confirm customer and performance requirements are met
• - Participate in tooling selection and approve tooling based on sample results
• - Support evaluation of pilot production runs and resolve production issues
• - Prepare and approve technical literature, and train teams on new products

WHAT YOU BRING

• - BS in Chemical, Materials, or Polymer Engineering (MS a plus)
• - BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with experience in rubber/elastomers or plastics/polymers will also be considered
• - 2-5 years of experience in material selection, testing, and validation preferred
• - Knowledge of polymeric material testing and failure analysis
• - Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve technical issues
• - Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
• - Strong computer skills in standard MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
• - Able to travel globally as required, up to 20%

WHAT SETS YOU APART

• - Coating materials selection and testing knowledge
• - Thermoplastic and thermoset materials knowledge, from commodity grades to complex engineering grades
• - Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for part optimization with polymer-based products and materials; Abaqus or Ansys preferred
• - Experience running analysis with Mold Flow Insight
