  • Mechanical Eng with rubber/elastomers or plastics/polymers also considered.
  • 2–5 years of experience in material selection, testing, and validation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead concept generation and develop design ideas to satisfy product concepts.
  • Model concepts through drawings and/or hardware and present to stakeholders.
  • Partner with Marketing and Sales to refine concepts to meet customer requirements.
  • Estimate initial design costs and prepare project/ procurement authorizations.
  • Formulate new polymers that meet customer specifications.
  • Participate in supplier selection, in‑house or outsourced.
  • Oversee prototyping and testing against requirements (thermal, mechanical, chemical).
  • Solve design problems and resolve tolerance issues.
  • Lead design reviews to confirm customer and performance requirements.
  • Support tooling selection and approve tooling based on sample results.
  • Assist in pilot production runs and resolve production issues.
  • Prepare and approve technical literature and train teams on new products.

We're looking for a Project Engineer – Materials Technology to join our Corporate Engineering team in Easton, PA. In this role, you'll drive the development and commercialization of products that leverage advanced materials — thermosets, coatings, composites, thermoplastics, and metallic alloys — across our product lines. You'll gain hands‑on experience in plastic part product design, polymer processing, and instrumental analysis of chemicals and polymers (FTIR, DMA, DSC, TGA, Tensile, and more), while leading multi‑departmental teams from detailed design through commercialization.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD & OWN
  • Lead concept generation and develop specific design ideas to satisfy product concepts
  • Model concepts through drawings and/or hardware, and present and communicate ideas clearly to stakeholders
  • Partner with Marketing and Sales to refine concepts to meet customer requirements
  • Estimate initial design costs and prepare project and/or procurement authorizations
  • Formulate new polymers that meet customer specifications
  • Participate in supplier selection, in‑house or outsourced
  • Oversee prototyping and testing against requirements, including thermal, mechanical, and chemical analysis
  • Solve design problems and resolve tolerance issues
  • Scrutinize and review detailed cost estimates
  • Lead design reviews to confirm customer and performance requirements are met
  • Participate in tooling selection and approve tooling based on sample results
  • Support evaluation of pilot production runs and resolve production issues
  • Prepare and approve technical literature, and train teams on new products
WHAT YOU BRING
  • BS in Chemical, Materials, or Polymer Engineering (MS a plus)
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with experience in rubber/elastomers or plastics/polymers will also be considered
  • 2–5 years of experience in material selection, testing, and validation preferred
  • Knowledge of polymeric material testing and failure analysis
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve technical issues
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills in standard MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Able to travel globally as required, up to 20%
WHAT SETS YOU APART
  • Coating materials selection and testing knowledge
  • Thermoplastic and thermoset materials knowledge, from commodity grades to complex engineering grades
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for part optimization with polymer-based products and materials; Abaqus or Ansys preferred
  • Experience running analysis with Mold Flow Insight

COMPENSATION

The base salary range for this position will be determined based on experience, qualifications, skills, and geographic location. This role is also eligible for the full benefits package described above.
