Job summary

Helix Electric Inc. is offering a Project Engineer Intern role in San Diego. You will assist the Project Manager, act as a liaison between field and office, and help define project objectives by planning, executing, and finalizing tasks within schedule and budget.

You will gain hands-on experience across project types, with mentorship and exposure to change orders, estimating, procurement, and BIM coordination, while contributing to safety and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program such as Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
• Previous construction or internship experience preferred.
• Highly motivated with a tendency to take initiative.
• Basic math skills with ability to calculate and analyze data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• The ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
• A mindset for making continuous improvements of department processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with project managers, subcontractors, engineers, and vendors to ensure a team approach.
• Collaborate with superintendent to track material and maintain vendor relations for coordination and close-out.
• Champion Helix safety culture; monitor jobsite safety and accident prevention.
• Engage in the Change Order process and assist with estimating using Accubid.
• Partner with project team to analyze subcontract agreements for scope and pricing.
• Be involved with material and equipment procurement.
• Work closely with BIM department in the planning process.
• Produce and maintain detailed job logs (transmittals, submittals, RFIs).
• Expose to and monitor quality control.
• Manage labor schedules with superintendents and project managers.
• Create and order prefabricated assemblies for planning and on-time delivery.
• Walk jobs to learn the trade and influence overall company performance.
