Job summary

North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) seeks a Project Engineer in Asheville to support Division staff, coordinating project development and ensuring on-time delivery. The role involves guiding engineering design, budget management, and regulatory compliance across multiple projects.

The candidate will interact with municipalities, private firms, and public agencies, providing technical guidance and preparing status reports for leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and four years of related experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
• May require professional engineer registration in NC.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Project Engineer in Asheville and assist Division staff by providing engineering support to manage and coordinate project development efforts.
• Track all aspects of each project from conception to completion including feasibility, planning, public involvement, design, right-of-way, environmental issues, budget and letting to ensure timely delivery.
• Manage third-party agreements with municipalities and developers.
• Communicate verbally and in writing with public officials, consultants, environmental agencies, public and Department staff.
• Provide engineering and design guidance to Department staff and private firms, serving as liaison between firms and the Division.
• Provide status reports on projects and funding sources to Division Project Development Engineer and Division Engineer regularly.
• Legally operate a motor vehicle; travel between locations or sites may be required.
• Duties may include attending meetings or training sessions.
