Position Overview

The primary purpose of the project engineer is to develop, lead, and execute capital and expense projects in a manner that follows all McCormick process and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide packaging equipment engineering expertise for project design, construction, commissioning, and start-up as part of multi-functional teams for large capital projects, supporting projects ranging from $100k to $40M.
  • Provide project management and engineering discipline support for small to medium capital projects.
  • Apply McCormick engineering principles and Early Management tools to enhance the capability of packaging systems across the HVP plant.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert within engineering discipline—Packaging Equipment/Systems.
  • Build relationships with third-party vendors to deliver packaging equipment solutions.
  • Manage all aspects of project execution, including technical design, specifications, vendor management, and construction oversight.
  • Responsible for system commissioning, ramp-up, and transition to operations, including documentation, training, and post-project review.
  • Manage project budgets, including estimates, spending, cash flow projections, and reporting.
  • Conduct design reviews with suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise for process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist troubleshooting for daily operations as per plant escalation processes.

Project Management Responsibilities for Projects < $5M

  • Develop technical proposals, scopes, estimates, and schedules for project funding requests.
  • Assist in financial justification and business case development.
  • Maintain stakeholder engagement through regular updates and communication.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience as a project engineer in manufacturing.
  • Understanding of project financial justification (ROI, IRR, LCC/BC).
  • Leadership, planning, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple projects from evaluation to implementation.
  • Experience with capital project scope, management, and budgeting.
  • Experience with equipment specifications, bidding, negotiations, and installation supervision.
  • Leadership experience in small project teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and troubleshoot technical issues independently.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Word, AutoCAD.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, shifts, holidays as needed.
  • Travel approximately 10%, possibly higher during project phases.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in food processing, pharmaceutical, or regulated CPG environments.
  • Knowledge of control systems and integration for packaging lines.
  • Experience installing automated packaging lines (100–500 bpm+).
  • Experience working with packaging material design teams.
  • Experience with various packaging equipment such as fillers, cappers, labelers, packers, palletizers, etc.

Base salary will depend on location, skills, education, and experience, and will be part of a final offer. The position is eligible for McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan.
