Position Overview
The primary purpose of the project engineer is to develop, lead, and execute capital and expense projects following all McCormick process and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide packaging equipment engineering expertise for project design, construction, commissioning, and start-up as part of multi-functional teams for large capital projects, supporting projects ranging from $100k to $40M.
- Manage small to medium capital projects in addition to engineering discipline support.
- Apply McCormick engineering principles and Early Management tools to enhance packaging systems across the HVP plant.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert within the engineering discipline of Packaging Equipment/Systems.
- Build relationships with third-party vendors to deliver packaging equipment solutions.
Engineer Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of approved project execution, including technical design, specifications, vendor management, and coordination of contractors for construction, remodeling, and equipment installation.
- Manage system commissioning, ramp-up, and transition to operations, including documentation, training, spare parts, and post-project reviews.
- Handle project budget management, including estimates, spending, cash flow projection, and reporting.
- Conduct design reviews with equipment suppliers and internal teams.
- Provide technical expertise for process improvements and defect prevention activities.
- Assist troubleshooting for daily operations according to the plant issue escalation process.
Project Management Responsibilities for Projects < $5M
- Develop technical proposals, scopes of work, estimates, and schedules for funding requests.
- Collaborate on financial justification and business case development.
- Maintain stakeholder engagement through regular updates and communication.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience as a project engineer in manufacturing.
- Understanding of project financial justification processes.
- Leadership, planning, organization, and communication skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects from evaluation to implementation.
- Proficiency in developing project scope, justification, and managing budgets and schedules.
- Experience with equipment specifications, contractor management, and team leadership.
- Ability to prioritize and troubleshoot technical issues independently.
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Word, AutoCAD.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Availability to work weekends, varying shifts, and holidays as needed.
- Approximately 10% travel required, possibly more during specific project phases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in food processing, pharmaceutical, or regulated CPG environments.
- Knowledge of control systems and integration for packaging lines.
- Experience installing automated packaging lines (100-500 bpm+).
- Experience working with packaging material design teams.
- Experience with packaging equipment such as fillers, cappers, labelers, packers, palletizers, unscramblers, conveyors, printers, depalletizers, robotic systems.

Base Salary: $87,910 - $153,870
Salary will be determined based on location, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. Position is eligible for McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan. Employees also have access to our Total Rewards programs, including:
