Job Description

Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Assistant Engineer, Associate Engineer, Associate Engineer II, Project Engineer, or Project Engineer II to join the Technical and Environmental Services Group at our Headquarters in Millersville, MD. The ideal candidate will have knowledge/experience in stormwater design, permitting, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling. The candidate will work closely with Senior Engineers to develop effective stormwater management strategies that meet regulatory requirements and enhance environmental quality. Professional Engineer Certification is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Review stormwater management (SWM) best management practice (BMP) designs for existing and future stormwater facilities.
  • Develop SWM concept designs.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM) to assess stormwater runoff, drainage patterns, and floodplain management.
  • Manage permitting processes for stormwater-related projects.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Present findings and recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee project timelines and budgets.

Experience with GIS software, geodatabases, surveying, and CAD programs is desirable.

Estimated Pay Range
  • Assistant Engineer: $58,444.70 - $80,000.00
  • Associate Engineer: $64,289.46 - $88,000.00
  • Associate Engineer II: $70,718.27 - $97,000.00
  • Project Engineer: $77,789.80 - $106,500.00
  • Project Engineer II: $85,568.63 - $117,500.00

Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Geotechnical, Electrical, or a related engineering field from an accredited institution. Additional experience varies by role:

  • Assistant Engineer - No additional experience.
  • Associate Engineer - Two years of applicable engineering experience.
  • Associate Engineer II - Four years of applicable experience.
  • Project Engineer - Six years of applicable experience, including project oversight.
  • Project Engineer II - Eight years of applicable experience, including staff management.

A Master's degree or Professional Engineer license may substitute for some experience.
