Job summary

Ames Construction has been building America for more than 60 years. The Project Engineer role supports planning, coordination, and execution of heavy highway and civil projects to ensure safety, efficiency, and contract compliance.

You will work with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and inspectors to deliver high-quality infrastructure. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and at least 1 year of experience in heavy civil construction, plus strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in heavy civil or highway construction.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials; OSHA safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities to support project schedules and budgets.
• Design, review, and implement temporary works with emphasis on safety.
• Inspect installed work, equipment, and materials; identify issues and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
• Provide on-site direction and technical support to foremen, crews, and subcontractors.
• Monitor project progress and prepare accurate daily reports, quantities, and documentation.
• Perform quality control inspections to ensure compliance with contract documents and specs.
• Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements and approved submittals.
• Enforce safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper PPE usage on site.
• Support project cost tracking, schedule updates, and coordination with stakeholders.
• Assist with communication between field, project management, owners, and inspectors.
