Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking a motivated Engineer to join our heavy civil team. This role offers hands-on experience managing large-scale projects such as highways, bridges, utilities, and site development.

You will assist Project Managers and Superintendents, interpret plans, track progress, and help maintain documentation. Qualified candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; internship experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Internship or co-op experience in construction is preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of construction principles and project management fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6) is a plus.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with daily project operations.
• Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Track project progress, prepare reports, and maintain accurate documentation.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
• Support quality control and safety compliance on job sites.
• Assist in cost tracking, budgeting, and schedule updates.
• Participate in problem-solving and provide technical support during construction activities.
