Job summary

AlphaGov is seeking a Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout in the Detroit area.

You will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors to keep projects organized, on schedule, and moving efficiently, with hands-on mentorship and a clear path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial construction and project engineering.
• Ability to read electrical drawings and specs.
• Proficiency with Procore or similar construction software.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support project managers with planning and execution from start to finish.
• Prepare RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and project documentation.
• Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and scopes of work.
• Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
• Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long‑lead items, and key milestones.
• Assist with scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, billing, and project financial reporting.
• Participate in project meetings, site visits, coordination meetings, and progress reviews.
• Collaborate with estimating and BIM/VDC teams on constructability and installation planning.
• Maintain organized project files, meeting minutes, correspondence, and document control.
• Assist with material takeoffs, procurement planning, commissioning, logistics, and project closeout.
• Help identify and resolve scheduling, procurement, documentation, and field coordination issues.
• Support compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, company standards, and safety objectives.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction
• Experience with a commercial electrical contractor or specialty electrical subcontractor preferred
• Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation methods, sequencing, and field operations
• Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time‑management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced construction environment
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area
• Experience with healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, industrial, or other complex commercial projects is a plus
