Qualifications

Job description

At RK&K, we have an immediate need for an experienced, career-minded Structural Engineer/Bridge Inspector to join our team in our Fairfax location. Your primary function will be to serve as an NBIS Bridge Inspection Team Leader for a diverse inventory of bridges and structures for our clients. This position supports work in the Virginia and District of Columbia areas. You will immediately lead structural condition inspections of bridges and structures following NBIS and owner-specific guidelines and develop detailed condition inspection reports. As workload increases, you will also prepare designs for bridges and other transportation-related structures, buildings, and water/wastewater structures, providing preliminary concepts to final construction plans and reviews.

Successful performance in this role may lead to rapid advancement into leadership and management roles in the condition inspection area, including supervising other Team Leaders and Inspectors, interacting with clients, and managing inspection assignments and contracts.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as NBIS Team Leader for Inspection Tasks
  • Coordinate with the Bridge Inspection Program Manager to schedule inspection activities
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports in client-preferred formats, documenting findings and recommendations
  • Review inspection reports from other Team Leaders or Inspectors for accuracy
  • Design structural elements of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related structures
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across RK&K's portfolio
  • Mentor and support junior engineers
  • Manage task orders and projects as required
Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in transportation-related structural engineering, including bridge inspections
  • Familiarity with bridge inspection reporting systems such as InspectTech, SAM, DBIR, ASIR, etc.
  • Meet NBIS Team Leader requirements per 23 CFR 650.309
  • Engineer Intern (EI) license required
  • Completion of NBIS Bridge Inspection Training - NHI Courses 130055, 130053, 130078 (preferred), and 130087 (preferred)
  • Experience with or willingness to learn structural design and CADD software such as STADD Pro, Larsa4D, Leap Bridge Modules, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Openbridge, etc.
  • Effective communication skills, including coordination with vendors and safe implementation of inspection activities
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master's degree in civil engineering or structures
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration
  • Experience with ancillary structure inspection
  • Snooper and Bucket Truck Training
