Job summary

McGuire Builders, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to support hotel and restaurant construction and renovation projects in Torrance, CA.

You'll assist project managers across all phases, manage documentation, scheduling, cost tracking, and coordination with architects, engineers, and subcontractors. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; travel to project sites is

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in hotel and restaurant construction or renovation projects.
  • Project management certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction management methods and processes.
  • Familiarity with construction codes and industry practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Proximity to the Torrance office for regular in-office work.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and trade personnel.
  • Assist in implementing pre-construction plans and project execution strategies.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and other construction professionals.
  • Manage, create, distribute, and file project documentation (RFIs, submittals, correspondence).
  • Establish and maintain electronic document control procedures.
  • Develop and maintain logs as required by the PM and company policies.
  • Manage submittals and ensure material procurement aligns with schedules.
  • Develop, distribute, and track RFIs and change orders.
  • Update and maintain as-built construction documents.
  • Obtain and maintain permits and manage related fees.
  • Track testing, inspections, and QC documentation.
  • Assist with scheduling deliverables and milestones; monitor progress.
  • Support cost tracking, budgeting, and basic cost estimating.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and outside contractors.
  • Report progress, issues, and risks to PM; mitigate issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with project team and external partners.
  • Support project managers with day-to-day administration and coordination.

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager with hotel and restaurant construction and renovation experience to join our Torrance-based team. This role supports project managers across all phases of construction and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple project tasks.

  • Obtain and maintain construction permits and manage related fee payments
  • Track testing, inspections, and quality control documentation
  • Assist with scheduling key deliverables and milestones and monitor progress
  • Support cost tracking, budgeting, and basic cost estimating efforts
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and outside contractors
  • Report project progress, issues, and potential risks to the Project Manager
  • Identify and assist in mitigating potential project issues
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with project team members and external partners
  • Support project managers with day-to-day project administration and coordination
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in hotel and restaurant construction or renovation projects

  • Basic understanding of construction legal requirements and business practices
  • Familiarity with construction methods, building products, and applicable codes
  • Ability to manage multiple project tasks and priorities simultaneously

  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed
