Job summary

North Mechanical Contracting and Service in Indianapolis seeks a motivated Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager for an entry-level position in our Contracting Department. This full-time role provides hands-on experience, mentorship, and a structured path toward becoming a Project Manager.

You will support a Project Manager with planning, coordination, budgeting, procurement, and documentation for commercial mechanical piping and plumbing projects, through our Management Education Program

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in CM/Engineering or related field.
• Prior construction internship or co-op beneficial but not required.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn project management software and processes.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers with planning, scheduling, and coordination.
• Support project budget tracking, job cost reviews, and forecast preparation.
• Help prepare monthly billings and maintain project financial documentation.
• Assist with procurement, purchase orders, and subcontract coordination.
• Track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documents.
• Participate in and generate minutes for project meetings and site walks.
• Coordinate with field leadership, VDC, fabrication, and project stakeholders.
• Review daily logs, track action items, and escalate issues.
• Support project startup, closeout, and quality control activities.
• Progressively assume PM responsibilities under mentorship.
