Qualifications

  • 3-6 years of experience in design, permitting, and construction administration.
  • EI Certification required, PE or ability to obtain within a year encouraged.

Job description

Acorn Engineering Inc. (Acorn), a growing civil and environmental engineering firm in Portland, Maine, is seeking a qualified Project Engineer. The engineer will be an integral part of the development team and assist through the life cycle of projects.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Development of drawings
  2. Coordination with project stakeholders
  3. Regulatory permitting
  4. Construction administration
Acorn’s current projects include:
  1. Downtown revitalization
  2. Affordable housing through the state
  3. Urban infill developments, including the tallest building in Maine
  4. Municipal and industrial compliance
  5. Permitting for community solar farms
  6. Floodplain restoration
  7. Watershed restoration

Acorn partners with high-quality clientele and champions their projects from initial concept through planning board approval to final completion. Capabilities and Credentials
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  2. 3-6 years experience with design, permitting, and construction administration for various site design projects within Maine
  3. Strong technical and engineering design skills
  4. Proficiency in AutoCad Civil 3D & HydroCAD
  5. Understanding of local, state, and federal permitting regulations and applications
  6. Experience with design of stormwater management systems
  7. Valid driver’s license
  8. EI Certification required – PE or ability to obtain your PE within one (1) year is encouraged

Employees will be provided with a laptop to enable work within our hybrid work model. It’s anticipated the hybrid remote model would include 75% of time in the Portland office and 25% remote. This balanced approach fosters in-person collaboration while providing employees the opportunity to be with family, to travel, and to engage with their community – all of which are important parts of our company’s culture.
