Job summary

Hanwha Q CELLS America Inc. invites a Project Engineer to lead technical due diligence and coordinate engineering across origination, development, design, construction, and commissioning of solar and storage projects in the United States.

You will collaborate with Development, Project Management, EPC partners, utilities, and equipment manufacturers to optimize designs, assess risks, and drive projects toward successful commercial operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Energy, or related Engineering.
• 3–7 years of experience in solar energy, storage, or renewable energy project engineering.
• Experience supporting community solar, C&I solar, distributed generation, or energy storage projects.

• Review energy modeling assumptions and production estimates using PVsyst, HelioScope, or similar tools.

• Manage external engineering consultants, surveyors, geotechnical firms, and specialty contractors.
• Support EPC procurement activities, including preparation of technical scopes of work and review of contractor proposals.
• Participate in technology evaluations and technical assessments of PV modules, inverters, batteries, racking, transformers, and balance-of-system equipment.
• Conduct site visits and assess technical constraints and development risks.

The Project Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and engineering coordination during the origination, development, design, construction, and commissioning phases of community solar, commercial & industrial (C&I), PV+ESS, PV-only, and ESS-only projects across the United States.

The Project Engineer works closely with Development, Project Management, EPC partners, utilities, consultants, and equipment manufacturers to evaluate project feasibility, manage technical risks, optimize project designs, and support successful project execution. This position plays a key role in advancing projects from early-stage development through construction and commercial operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead technical due diligence activities for projects at various stages of development. Review and coordinate conceptual layouts, electrical single-line diagrams, equipment selections, and engineering deliverables.
• Support project optimization efforts to improve energy production, constructability, economics, and long-term asset performance.
• Review energy modeling assumptions and production estimates prepared using PVsyst, HelioScope, or similar tools.
• Coordinate engineering support for permitting, interconnection, utility reviews, and AHJ requirements.
• Manage external engineering consultants, surveyors, geotechnical firms, and specialty contractors.
• Support EPC procurement activities, including preparation of technical scopes of work and review of contractor proposals.
• Participate in technology evaluations and technical assessments of PV modules, inverters, battery systems, racking, transformers, and balance-of-system equipment.
• Conduct site visits and support project assessments to identify technical constraints and development risks.
• Track engineering deliverables, schedules, and technical issues across an assigned portfolio of projects.
• Identify and communicate project risks impacting schedule, cost, permitting, interconnection, constructability, and overall project feasibility.
• Support construction activities through review of technical submittals, RFIs, design changes, and commissioning documentation.
• Provide technical support to project stakeholders, including developers, investors, utilities, EPC contractors, and asset owners

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Energy, or related Engineering discipline.
• 3-7 years of experience in solar energy, storage, or renewable energy project engineering.
• Experience supporting community solar, C&I solar, distributed generation, or energy storage projects.
• Understanding of development, permitting, interconnection, and construction processes.
• Experience managing engineering consultants and reviewing technical deliverables.
• Strong understanding of PV and/or battery energy storage systems.
• Strong project management and communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with PVsyst, HelioScope, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and processes.
• Experience supporting EPC oversight and construction activities.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Experience with community solar and distributed generation (greenfield and brownfield) projects.

COMPENSATION:

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the anticipated annual base salary for this position is:

• Zone 1 (Bay Area, NYC): $135,400 – $148,900
• Zone 2 (CA, NJ, NY): $124,100 – $136,500
• Zone 3 (All others): $112,800 – $124,100

The applicable salary range is based on the employee’s primary work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other business-related factors.
