ABB Houston is seeking a Project Engineer with a background in power systems to support engineering projects, ensuring successful delivery through effective technical leadership and coordination. You will develop and review electrical deliverables, attend customer design reviews, and manage scope and schedules across multiple projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 2+ years of experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Support engineering projects with technical leadership, coordinating scope, schedule and quality.
• Develop, review, and approve electrical deliverables per codes and ABB standards.
• Attend design reviews and coordination meetings with multidisciplinary teams.
• Manage engineering scope, risks, schedules, and change control with Project Management.

Being part of this team allows engineers to collaborate across multiple disciplines, contribute to complex and impactful projects, and develop a well-rounded understanding of modern power infrastructure up to 69kV.The work model for the role is: hybrid #LI-yrbridThis role is contributing to the Automation Energy Industries division in Houston, TX.Your role and responsibilities:Support engineering projects, ensuring successful delivery through effective technical leadership, coordination, and adherence to project scope, schedule, and quality expectations.Complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects.Develop, review, and approve electrical engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, industry standards, and ABB engineering practices.Attend customer technical meetings, design reviews, and interdisciplinary engineering coordination meetings.Manage assigned engineering scope, technical risks, engineering schedules, and change management activities in collaboration with Project Management.Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities as required.Coordinate and provide technical oversight of multi-discipline vendors and subcontractors, ensuring alignment with project requirements, engineering standards, schedules, and overall project objectives.Additional tasks with varying scope depending on experience level:Perform power system studies (e.g., short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow) to support protection design and validate system performance.Create substation and electrical building integration design packages and follow those projects from the conceptual stage to construction completion.Develop protection and control system designs, including relay selection, protection philosophies, settings development, configuration, and coordination.Design/implementation of power management systems (PMS).Our Team DynamicsOur teams support each other, collaborate, and never stop learning. Being part of our team means your work matters - because the progress we make here creates real impact out there.Qualifications for the roleBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.2+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with demonstrated success supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects.Experience in one of the following technical areas:Power system studies and associated software (ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, EasyPower)Substation and electrical building design.Protection and control system design, including relay applications, settings, and integration.Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and codes (IEEE, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, IEC, or equivalent as applicable).Demonstrated experience serving as an Electrical Engineer low to medium complexity engineering projects.Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate technical execution across multiple concurrent projects.Excellent technical problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination with an interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.You enjoy occasionally working in the field and traveling to customer and manufacturing sites to support project execution (approx. 25% travel).What's in it for youWe empower you to take initiative, challenge ideas, and lead with confidence.
