Job summary

ABB in Richmond, VA is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the development of critical power equipment. You will design and document mechanical components, test to meet stringent requirements, and participate in cost-reduction initiatives with cross-functional teams.

You will lead prototype design, support fabrication, and translate concepts into engineering drawings while collaborating with production, supply chain, and service groups to ensure robust, manufacturable solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2+ years in mechanical engineering, product development, or product design.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with thermal and structural evaluation; PLM is a plus.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards (UL/IEC) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal design and manufacturing drawings.
  • Project management experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.

  • Contribute to mechanical design deliverables and documentation for new or enhanced power equipment models.
  • Design and test to meet requirements; document designs.
  • Lead prototype design, support fabrication, and drive improvements after prototyping.
  • Participate in cost-reduction initiatives and cross-functional coordination.
