Job summary

Prime is seeking a Project Engineer to support electrical construction projects in our Washington-based office. You will assist with planning, permits, submittals, drawings, field packages, and purchasing, while maintaining rigorous project documentation.

You will collaborate with project managers and field teams, meet deadlines, and uphold safety and quality standards in a fully in-person setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in Construction Management or related field, and/or 2 years electrical construction industry experience.
  • Familiarity with software-based estimating, accounting, scheduling and project management systems; Accubid a plus.
  • Understanding of construction cost, scheduling, estimating and engineering principles.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in monitoring project planning, execution and closure.
  • Assist in managing permit applications, obtaining permits, and scheduling inspections as needed.
  • Establish and maintain project management and administrative files.
  • Research, acquire and organize submittals and O&M manual materials.
  • Maintain meticulous records of incoming and outgoing submittals.
  • Update and manage drawing sets, both electronically and in hard copies.
  • Organize and maintain project correspondence.
  • Help create and oversee field installation work packages and monitor schedule progress.
  • Assist in implementing and entering Purchasing Orders and PO changes.
  • Aid in estimating and tracking Potential Change Orders.
  • Assist in writing and tracking RFIs
  • Contribute to the preparation and substantiation of job billing.
  • Attend regular project status meetings.
  • Provide support to Project Management and Field Management teams.

As a Project Engineer, you’ll play a key role in supporting and performing various electrical project requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate in monitoring project planning, execution and closure.
  • Assist in managing permit applications, obtaining permits, and scheduling inspections as needed.

  • Research, acquire and organize submittals and Operations & Maintenance manual materials.
  • Maintain meticulous records of incoming and outgoing submittals.
  • Update and manage drawing sets, both electronically and in hard copies.
  • Organize and maintain project correspondence.
  • Help create and oversee field installation work packages and monitor overall schedule progress.
  • Assist in implementing and entering Purchasing Orders (PO’s) and PO Changes.
  • Aid in estimating and tracking Potential Change Orders (PCO’s).
  • Assist in writing and tracking Requests for Information (RFI’s)
  • Contribute to the preparation and substantiation of job billing.
  • Attend regular project status meetings.
  • Provide support to Project Management and Field Management teams as needed.
  • Adhere to the PRIME Safety Program, complying with safety regulations, procedures and safe work practices.
  • Maintain a physical presence onsite and regularly visit jobsites to oversee progress and provide assistance to the project management team as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with our without notice.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in Construction Management or related field, and/or 2 years electrical construction industry experience, or relevant field experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.
  • Familiarity with software-based estimating, accounting, scheduling and project management systems, with knowledge of Accubid, considered a plus.
  • Understanding of construction cost, scheduling, estimating and engineering principles and techniques, as well as accounting principles, a plus.
  • Ability to learn electrical estimating to produce job change orders, evaluate and apply job estimates and assist with new estimates.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and a commitment to maintaining a constructive work environment.
  • Uphold a strong work ethic and good punctuality.
  • Prioritize work effectively to meet all deadlines with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capacity for on-the-job learning.

Special Requirements / Physical Demands / Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with minimal health or safety hazards. Noise level and temperature is moderate. Minimal lifting or climbing. This position is expected to be fully in‑person, with some travel such as, but not limited to, other offices, work sites and local business errands.

When performing project services in the field: Work is primarily performed in an outdoor field setting with occasional exposure to health or safety hazards such as, but not limited to, electrical hazards, water hazards, hazardous terrain, inclement weather conditions, traffic and loud noises. Occasional climbing and/or lifting (up to 30 lbs.) Travel required to work sites. Frequent use of personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, gloves, safety vests, hard hats and steel‑toed boots).

Communication Skills

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, read and interpret documents such as submittals, operations manuals and project schedules. Ability to write routine correspondence such as letters and memos. Ability to present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to internal and/or external clients of the firm. Communicate clearly and effectively with project managers, team members, and stakeholders to support project execution.

Reasoning Ability / Critical Thinking

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction. Constructive thinking and alternative short- to long-term solutions must be considered. Action plans must be developed and implemented. Capacity to identify issues, propose solutions, and elevate matters as needed. Accurate documentation, record-keeping, and thorough review of project materials. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and contribute to project success.
