Job summary

Baker Publishing Group Office, Ada, MI is seeking a Project Editor to guide titles from manuscript through production-ready files. This onsite, full-time role works with Baker Academic and Brazos Press to ensure on-time publications.

The editor will manage schedules, liaise with authors, copyedit, and hire/review freelance editors while collaborating with the Managing Editor on budgets and editorial standards.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in biblical studies, theology, history of Christianity, or closely related subjects.
• 3+ years of book-editing experience.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Solid knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and editing techniques.
• Knowledge of the Bible and working knowledge of biblical languages.
• Good interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks, follow schedules, and meet deadlines.
• Self-motivated and collaborative.

Responsibilities

• Manage schedules of assigned projects to ensure on-time delivery.
• Work diplomatically with authors and cross-departmentally with teams.
• Copyedit and/or proofread titles using Chicago Manual of Style and house styles.
• Hire freelance editors and proofreaders and review their work.
• Set project budgets with the Managing Editor and adhere to them.
• Coordinate quality and on-time publications across departments.
• Attend and participate in regular editorial meetings.
• Refine editorial procedures and standards with peers.
