Job summary

EnerSys is seeking a Project Design Engineer to design, engineer, and cost critical power construction projects for large facilities. You will create designs, support construction, and act as SME for technical issues while coordinating with vendors and clients.

The role requires a BS in engineering, experience with DC/AC power systems, and proficiency with SharePoint, TEAMS, AutoCAD, Visio, and MS Office tools. Travel and 24/7 support are expected as part of operations.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience with critical power, DC/AC power systems, and facilities infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with cooling, control systems, switch gear, and generator systems.
  • Experience in project management and operations culture.
  • Ability to read RFQs, SOWs, drawings, and prepare design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and cost critical power construction projects for large facilities.
  • Support construction and supervise design deliverables.
  • Act as SME for technical issues and improve estimation tools.
  • Coordinate with clients, engineers, and vendors to ensure specs and margins.
  • Lead validation of designs and provide pricing guidance to sales and estimators.
  • Travel as required and support 24/7 division with communications.

Compensation Range:82,000-100,000

Compensation may vary based on applicant's work experience, education level, skill set, and/or location.

Job Purpose

The Project Design Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering, and costing critical power construction projects.

Activities include:

  • Create designs for strategic, large, technically complex projects.
  • Support the construction of designs.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for the resolution of technical issues.
  • Continuously improve tools, templates and software used to provide proper estimations, designs, and supporting documentation.The Project Design Engineer clarifies project scope with clients, oversees discussions with professional engineering and architectural resources, engages special technical resources as necessary, works with equipment vendors to ensure compliance to specifications, performs system reliability calculations, engineers control and monitoring systems, guides the sales and estimating team in the costing and pricing of offers, assists the sales team with the presentation of solutions to clients, and supports the Sales and Operations teams in managing internal and external client relationships.

During construction, the Project Design Engineer assists the Project Managers and installation teams to meet the customer schedule and budget while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Quote and execute successful field projects within critical facilities environment including oversight and direction of design and estimation deliverables from team members.
  • Work with Manager, PMO to establish, track and update team KPI’s.
  • As the subject matter expert of critical facility infrastructure, coach team members, such as estimators, project managers, and sales, in technical matters.
  • Develop and refine tools and processes to improve team efficiency and accuracy.
  • Work closely with internal/external customers to determine requirementsand make cost-effective and innovative recommendations.
  • Generate, read, interpret, and explain RFQ’s, SOW’s, drawings (Space & Single-Line) to guide the creation of solutions, estimates, and other documents within a timely manner, while adhering to company guidelines (e.g. legal review process and required margin calculations).
  • Working knowledge of client-specific standards as well as industry standards, such as Telcordia, within the DC/Critical Facilities environment.
  • Support the Sales team in the identification and qualification of new market opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, technicians, and project coordinators.
  • Create overall strategies and plans to execute projects.
  • Manage change control and implement approved changes.
  • Assist in the delivery of close-out documentation to clients in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and review with team any post-mortems required.
  • Review financials with Sales and Operations management.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Constant and consistent communication among all project team members
  • Actively participate in project design and management decisions.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the team and external to the team to eliminate waste and to improve processes and quality.
  • Identify opportunities for process and quality improvements, act when possible and involve management team when additional support is needed.
  • Ensure corporate practices for safety and general best practices for safety are always followed.
  • Ability to work independently and with the team to meet goals and directives.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • BS degree in engineering (electrical or mechanical preferred) or similar technical field from an accredited university.
  • Experience in critical power including protected DC power and AC power systems.
  • Basic understanding of cooling systems, control systems, AC switch gear, and generator systems.
  • Experience in project management and operations culture.
  • Understanding of financial statements, budgets and engineering economic calculations.
  • Ability to create, document, and present design concepts to customers and operations.
  • Experience working with professional engineers and architects.
  • Familiarity with construction techniques and able to apply them to design solutions.

Skills and Skill Levels

  • Experience and ability in the use of SharePoint and TEAMS.
  • Excellent computer skills (specifically MS Excel, MS Project, MS PowerPoint)
  • Experience in technical drawings programs (AutoCAD, Visio) required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and make critical decisions on a day-to-day basis

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Incumbent must obtain a Criminal Record Check and Drivers Abstract on regular intervals upon starting and during employment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Availability to answer emails, calls and correspondence after typical hours to support a 24/7 division
