Project CREST is being conducted by Utah State University Extension in collaboration with the Salt Lake County Health Department and in partnership with Granite School District. This pilot project is designed to help schools partner with parents to enhance student resilience and increase academic outcomes by providing educational opportunities for students and their families.

Utah State University is seeking eight qualified individuals who can coordinate and oversee project activities at their respective schools to serve in the role of part-time Project CREST School Site Coordinator. In this role, individuals will spend approximately 4 hours a week across the school year facilitating a team of school representatives (e.g., administrators, counselors, social workers, teachers) and overseeing the development of a group of engaged parents in each of the participating schools. The purpose of these teams is to plan, raise awareness for, and assist with the delivery of research-based educational workshops and evidence-based prevention programs designed to address risk and protective factors in students and their families.

This position is part-time and non-benefited. Individuals will work an average of 4 hours per week during the school year with some summer hours. Position will be funded through June of 2029, with the possibility of an extension dependent upon available funding.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the facilitator of the school’s Project CREST team and as the liaison to the Project CREST team at USU.
  • With guidance from the Project CREST Advisory Team, help plan and coordinate a parent focus group that will help identify school and family needs from parents’ perspectives.
  • Organize and facilitate a group of parents selected to represent the diversity of the school community to support project activities.
  • Guide and actively support the school’s efforts to select, prioritize, organize, and coordinate project awareness and educational activities.
  • Identify barriers to implementation and participation and coordinate communication and creative problem solving around solutions.
  • Facilitate meetings with the school team and parent engagement group to support project activities that align with school and family needs as determined by available data and information from key school and community stakeholders.
  • Provide clear communication that will enhance the ability of the school and parent group to creatively implement successful project activities that align with project guidelines.
  • Meet regularly with, and work alongside, a coach from the USU Project team to customize prevention offerings and schedule research- and evidence-based family, parenting, and youth programs.
  • Attend regular in-person or virtual meetings with the USU Coach and other School Site Coordinators to evaluate program effectiveness, share successes and learning, and facilitate collaborative efforts and creative problem solving.
  • Connect with, and utilize, community resources to support school-based initiatives and strengthen school and community engagement.
  • Coordinate communications with the school so that educational content and events are systematically promoted through available channels such as school announcements, newsletters, flyers, existing parent groups, etc.
