Job Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Project Controls Specialist with a strong background in accounting and project financial management to support Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) remediation projects. This role is responsible for tracking project costs, managing invoicing, overseeing accounts payable/receivable, and supporting cost estimating and financial forecasting. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with project-based financial operations and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and control project budgets for UXO remediation and environmental cleanup projects
- Track actual project costs and commitments against approved budgets and estimates
- Prepare, review, and submit accurate invoices in accordance with government or client contract terms (T&M, Cost-Plus, Fixed-Price, etc.)
- Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processing for assigned projects
- Collaborate with project managers and field personnel to ensure accurate and timely cost data collection (labor, equipment, subcontractors, materials)
- Support cost estimating for project proposals and contract modifications
- Generate periodic project financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses
- Develop and maintain project financial tracking tools and dashboards using advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, formulas, charts)
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, contract requirements, and applicable federal regulations (e.g., FAR/DFARS)
- Assist company Controller/CPA with internal and external financial audits, funding reports, and customer financial reviews
- Support billing and cost documentation for Department of Defense and other government-funded UXO remediation contracts
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Project Management, or a related field
- 3-7 years of experience in project controls, project accounting, or financial management within the environmental services or UXO remediation industry
- Strong knowledge of AR/AP, invoicing, and contract-based financial workflows
- Proven ability to develop and maintain Excel-based tracking tools for budgets, costs, and forecasts
- Familiarity with project cost structures and estimating processes, especially in field-based or government contracting environments
- Experience with accounting or project management software (e.g., QuickBooks Enterprise, Primavera, or equivalent)
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to support multiple project deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across finance, project, and field teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), USACE, or NAVFAC contracts
- Familiarity with UXO, munitions response, range clearance, or similar environmental remediation operations
- Understanding of FAR/DFARS, government invoicing standards, and funding documentation requirements
- Cost control certifications (e.g., CCP, PMP) or working toward certification
- Experience working with multidisciplinary field teams and remote project sites
