Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to manage financial performance and control processes for multiple engineering projects within the Project Management business unit.

You will work with Project Managers and stakeholders to ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and reporting. Ideal candidates bring on-site project controls experience, strong knowledge of project accounting, and proficiency with SAP, Excel, and Word.

Qualifications

  • Min 6 years of on-site project controls experience.
  • Experience using SAP, Excel, Word.
  • On-site Mon-Fri; availability for 4x10s, 5x8s or as directed by client Lead.
  • Daily tasks include submitting purchase orders, change orders, service entries, status reporting, walkdowns and forecasts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking systems for assigned projects.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, variance analyses, and earned value metrics.
  • Monitor project expenditures and identify cost overruns, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support the preparation and review of client invoices and ensure timely billing.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure financial alignment with project scope and schedule.
  • Assist in the development of change orders and budget revisions.
  • Ensure compliance with Mesa’s financial policies and client requirements.
  • Participate in project reviews and provide financial insights to support decisions.
  • Maintain documentation for audits and client reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in project control processes and tools.

Mesa seeks a Project Controls Specialist that will work within the Project Management business unit at Mesa. This position is responsible for managing financial performance and control processes for multiple engineering projects. The Project Controls Specialist works closely with Project Managers, Program Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and reporting. This role requires a strong understanding of project accounting, financial analysis, and cost control principles. The Project Controls Specialist is expected to proactively identify financial risks, support decision-making, and contribute to the overall profitability and efficiency of the business unit. This position requires analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial insights effectively.

Education and Experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field AND 2-3 years of related work experience.
  • PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PBA) and/or P6 certification.

Minimum:

  • Min 6 years’ experience on-site project controls
  • Experience using SAP, Excel, Word.
  • On-site Mon-Fri
  • Work 4x10s, 5x8s, as directed by client Lead. Possibility of working 5x10s or 6x10s.
  • Daily tasks: Submitting purchase orders, change orders, service entries, attending daily/weekly meetings, reporting status updates, attending walkdowns, reporting financials on existing purchase orders, and assisting with forecasts.
