Job Overview: We are seeking a Project Controls Specialist for our team based in Bloomfield, New Jersey (possible alternate location, Houston, Texas). This role encompasses project controls activities on a portfolio of projects; cost and progress management, forecasting analysis, planning, and scheduling, change management and preparation of project reporting. Additionally, active collaboration with project team members during development of budgets, forecasts, schedule development and monthly cost reporting updates is central to this role.


Key Responsibilities

Key Cost Specialist Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Understand contract requirements, Cost and Work Breakdown Structures (CBS-WBS).
  • Provide operational support to Project Managers during project execution.
  • Creation of original budgets from the as-sold estimates.
  • Collaboration with Finance & Accounting on financial reporting and forecasting.
  • Analyze and report cost variances, cash flow forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Develop and update project progress measurement.
  • Manage monthly cost reporting and cost forecast analysis.

Key Scheduling Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Develop project schedule working with the project team.
  • Participate in planning sessions of the project.
  • Facilitate monthly schedule updates and review meetings.
  • Analyze and report schedule impacts.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, finance, construction management, or similar degree.
  • 5-10 years related project controls work experience (Cost Specialist, Scheduler, or related experience) in Refining / Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, licensing technology, engineering, or capital projects.
  • Skilled in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Experience using enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as Oracle JD Edwards E1, Oracle Cloud or SAP.
  • Experience using project management & cost management systems such as Planisware Enterprise, Hexagon EcoSys, Omega PIMs or AERES Prism.
  • Experience in cost and progress management.
  • Basic understanding of critical path method scheduling using Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Able to build and maintain strong and trusted working relationships with internal clients in the business units as well as with corporate function groups.
  • Occasional domestic and/or international travel.
