Job summary

Dewberry's Raleigh, NC office seeks a Project Manager/Client Manager for the MEP Building Services group. You will serve as the primary client liaison, manage projects from concept through design, bidding, negotiations and construction administration, and help win future work with the same client.

The role requires PE with 8+ years' experience, strong leadership across multi-discipline teams, and a track record in healthcare/education/government projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • PE with 8+ years of experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of construction process and AIA contracts.
  • Self-motivated with strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Well organized with understanding of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, life safety systems, codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and direct frequent in-house design meetings.
  • Sign and seal documents as Engineer of Record where applicable.
  • Prepare detailed personnel loading by task and schedule.
  • Coordinate with Discipline Managers to assign personnel.
  • Prepare project timelines and maintain design folders.
  • Document meetings and communications; ensure client needs are met.
  • Provide on-the-spot advice to Owner and assist in billing.
  • Coordinate submissions to reviewing authorities and responses to reviews.
  • Attend pre-bid conferences and issue addenda; conduct bid openings.
  • Support Construction Administration and site visits as needed.
  • Assist with recruiting and evaluating new MEP staff.

Job Description

Dewberry's Raleigh, NC office includes over 200 design professionals, including a large Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural (MEPS) Group focused on design services for clients in North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. Our experience includes all major healthcare systems, higher education, K-12 schools, central plants/infrastructure, and more. Raleigh's MEPS group contains subject matter experts in leadership roles in all major professional organizations, such as ASHE, ASHRAE, etc. Our repeat clients include most of the largest hospital systems, universities, and state, local, and federal government agencies. Our MEPS service line is ranked #30 nationally among MEP Giants, and our local Raleigh office is ranked #3 by size in engineering firms in the Triangle.

Dewberry is seeking a Project Manager/Client Manager in Raleigh, NC, for our MEP Building Services group. The Project Manager will be the primary contact between our office and the Owner, effectively managing MEP projects from concept through design, bidding, negotiation, and construction administration to winning the next project with the same client. Based on the candidate's knowledge of the Charlotte regional market, including existing client relationships and ability to establish new client relationships, acquire new projects. Work closely with the client to anticipate and avoid problems. Quickly solve problems that arise. Work with a multi-disciplined team to provide first-rate engineering documents that meet the client's needs, project specifications, and governing standards/codes. Assist the client to achieve their professional goals and those of their organization, and in general, do whatever is necessary to maintain a Client for Life.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and direct frequent in-house design meetings.
  • Primary responsibility for the approval and oversight of design and construction documents within the applicable area of progressive technical experience, including signing and sealing of documents as Engineer or Record.
  • Prepare detailed personnel loading by task, interfaced with the detailed schedule.
  • Coordinate with Design Discipline Managers to schedule, plan, and assign appropriate personnel.
  • Prepare storyboards and a detailed project timeline.
  • Organize and maintain the project design folder.
  • Document meetings and telephone conversations.
  • Provide quality control to ensure that all the clients' needs and requests have been accommodated. Ensure and coordinate among all the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
  • Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions to Owner.
  • Advise on project billing and assist in collections.
  • Supervise and coordinate the submission of documents to the appropriate reviewing authorities (DOI, SCO, DHSR, DFS, IRI, etc.).
  • Coordinate the responses to reviews. Ensure that responses are, in fact, reflected in the drawings and specifications.
  • Arrange for in-house quality review in a timely fashion.
  • Arrange and attend pre-bid conferences and issue meeting minutes and addenda.
  • Conduct bid openings and prepare / issue certified bid tabulation. Coordinate as required to ensure the CA phase of the project always puts Dewberry in positive standing with Client.
  • Perform site visits, inspections activities as required to support the Construction Administration requirements.
  • Assist with recruiting, evaluating, and making recommendations regarding new employees to support MEP building services practice.
Required Skills & Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Accomplished Professional Engineer (PE) with 8+ years of experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of construction process, familiar with AIA contracts.
  • Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Well organized, with good understanding of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems with general knowledge of applicable codes, national standards, client design standards, system operation, space requirements, and cost.
