Job summary

Agribusiness Development Agency is seeking an Accountant for a fixed-term contract in Pietermaritzburg. The role requires an accounting degree or diploma, matric, and at least three years of relevant experience.

The successful candidate will handle payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls, reporting to the Finance Manager. Responsibilities include managing project budgets, cash management, grant reconciliation, and maintaining financial records.

Qualifications

• Must have completed matric.
• A relevant Accounting Degree or National Diploma.
• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
• A valid driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Manage project budgets and report findings.
• Process monthly payroll.
• Deposit cash and reconcile cash receipts.
• Conduct project visits and prepare reports.
• Perform financial planning tasks as required.
• Monitor and manage project cash flows.
• Report income and expenditure to Finance Manager by project and line item.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations and policies.
• Assist in policy development and annual reporting.
• Implement Debtors and Creditors controls.
• Administer petty cash and reconcile reimbursements.
• Record receipts and payments in the cashbook.
• Maintain grant register and reconcile unspent grants.
• Process transactions and reconcile general ledger monthly.
• Attend to finance filing and archiving.
• Maintain a register of invoices and follow up on long outstanding items.
• Perform ad-hoc duties as required.
