Position Summary

Temple University's Project Delivery Group is seeking a Project Architect/Manager to join its team of planning, design, and construction professionals. Reporting to the Associate Director of Planning & Design, this position serves as the University's owner's representative for small- and medium-sized capital improvement projects, with primary responsibility for project planning, programming, design management, consultant coordination, and architectural leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

The Project Architect/Manager serves as the University's owner's representative and design lead for assigned capital improvement projects, providing leadership throughout planning and design while partnering with the assigned Construction Project Manager to support successful project delivery through construction and closeout. Working collaboratively with campus stakeholders, consultants, regulatory agencies, and internal Project Delivery Group staff, the Project Architect/Manager manages the planning and design process, coordinates consultant activities, and reviews design deliverables to ensure compliance with University standards, project requirements, applicable codes, and institutional goals for quality, functionality, maintainability, scope, budget, and schedule. The position also supports procurement, construction administration, and project closeout by collaborating with the assigned Construction Project Manager to maintain design intent throughout project delivery.

In addition to managing externally designed projects, the Project Architect/Manager will prepare feasibility studies, test fits, space planning studies, conceptual designs, and limited in-house construction documents for select renovation and improvement projects. The position also supports campus planning initiatives, signage and wayfinding, code and regulatory reviews, furniture and finish selection, and other architectural services that contribute to the continuous improvement of Temple University's built environment.

The successful candidate will combine strong architectural design expertise with project management, communication, and relationship-building skills to deliver high-quality, user-focused projects while serving as a trusted representative of the University throughout the planning, design, and construction process.

Required Education and Experience
  • * Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or Engineer or a related degree
  • * Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the profession
  • * Demonstrated experience in space planning, programming, design, construction document production and/or construction administration.
  • * An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Experience
  • * Progress toward professional license
  • * LEED Accreditation
  • * Knowledge of project management software (i.e., e-Builder/Trimble)
  • * University or other owner's rep experience
Required Skills and Abilities
  • * Knowledge of building systems, building codes, accessibility requirements, life safety regulations, and industry standards applicable to institutional projects.
  • * Demonstrated ability to review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and technical documents.
  • * Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • * Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with faculty, staff, students, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • * Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to independently manage assignments and resolve project issues.
  • * Demonstrated proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • * Ability to prepare space plans, conceptual designs, presentations, graphics, and technical documentation to support project planning and decision-making.
  • * Ability to work effectively in both office and construction site environments and perform site observations as required.
  • * Demonstrated commitment to customer service, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

- This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
