Job summary

HMC Architects is seeking a Project Architect to lead the technical development, coordination and documentation of medium- to large-scale projects from design development through construction documents. This role requires strong leadership and coordination with internal teams, clients and regulators in our Ontario, CA office.

The position supports a flexible schedule with remote Mondays and Fridays and in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture (or related field).
• Active California Architectural License required.
• Minimum 7 years of experience across all architectural phases.
• Strong leadership, coordination, and quality control in construction documentation.
• Knowledge of building codes, agency requirements, and plan check processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
• Ability to manage budgets and support fee and scope development.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical development and coordination from design development through construction documentation.
• Resolve technical, code, and agency approval issues across all project phases.
• Supervise and manage project teams (up to four staff members).
• Coordinate and collaborate with consultants, clients, contractors, and internal project teams.
• Review project documents for quality, accuracy, coordination, and code compliance.
• Support project planning including schedules, budgets, staffing, and fee coordination.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members.
• Participate in proposals, interviews, and occasional marketing efforts.
• Ensure projects align with contractual obligations, client expectations, and firm standards.
• Lead or participate in Owner/Architect/Contractor (OAC) meetings as needed.
