Job summary

UC Santa Barbara is seeking a FAC PROJECT MGT SPEC 2 to administer capital improvement projects, manage contracts, and coordinate with campus departments. Based in Goleta, this role supports major projects and ensures timely delivery.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of analytical/administrative experience, plus strong communication and scheduling skills. A full benefits package is included.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Five years of experience providing analytical and administrative support for complex organizations, projects and/or processes.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective negotiation skills.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Detail oriented to accurately proof contracts and other documents.
  • Knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Project.

Responsibilities

  • 35% Project Management Support & Oversight – Supports and assists Project Managers on Major Capital Improvement Projects above $750,000; develops documents related to project planning, design development, contract bidding, contractor award, and physical construction phases; interprets contracts and agreements; monitors construction activities; reviews construction schedules; chairs weekly construction meetings; coordinates in‑house work efforts; verifies contractor amounts and prepares routing of Application for Payment.
  • 30% Project Management – Administers capital improvement projects up to $35,000; develops scope of work narrative; initiates contracts; monitors work; reviews construction schedules; directs contractors to update schedules; chairs weekly construction meetings; prepares and approves routing of Application for Payment.
  • 20% Contract Compliance & Cost Control – Implements construction document audit process; reviews RFIs, Field Orders, Cost Proposals, Change Orders, and Applications for Payment; ensures compliance with regulatory requirements; manages record retention; provides technical expertise for general counsel and auditors; reviews contractor cost proposals; confirms releases, waivers, and stop notices; works with Business & Financial Planning on budgets; generates financial reports.
  • 5% Project Management Software Oversight – Coordinates and manages all document exchanges between consultants and stakeholders via program management software; trains users; maintains and updates software.
  • 5% Policy Research & Client Outreach – Coordinates with UC Departments and outside agencies on construction activities, disturbances, and closures; develops traffic control plans, impact signage, and campus maps.
  • 5% Miscellaneous Other – Researches and investigates Contracting Codes and applicable testing requirements.

Job description

Position Title: FAC PROJECT MGT SPEC 2 (007077) (Job code 7077). Location: 6789 Navigator Way, Goleta, CA 93117. Salary Range: $35.34 – $62.84/hr. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. Full Benefits Eligible.

Brief Summary Of Job Duties

Under the general guidance of the Director of Design & Construction Services, responsible for the administration of capital improvement projects of various sizes and complexity up to $35,000. Develops the scope of work narrative and associated work diagrams, conducts site visits, initiates appropriate contracts, and monitors the work. Supports and assists Project Managers on Major Capital Improvement Projects above $750,000. Responsible for the oversight and administration of capital improvement projects of various sizes and complexity up to $35,000. Verifies contract and cost controls compliance. Responsible for the implementation, coordination, and management of all project document exchanges, and administers and implements program management system software. Interfaces and coordinates with other UC Departments and outside Agencies. Schedules and provides information on upcoming construction activities, disturbances, impacts, and potential closures.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Five (5) years of demonstrated experience providing analytical and administrative support for complex organizations, projects and/or processes.
