We are seeking an experiencedManager, Project Accounting to lead project accounting operations and oversee the financial management of large-scale capital and construction-related projects. This individual will manage a team of project accountants while partnering closely with Finance, FP&A, Project Management, Operations, and Procurement to ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of Project Accountants, providing guidance and oversight for project financial activities.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial performance reporting.
- Partner with FP&A to ensure capital expenditures, project labor, and operating costs are accurately recorded and reported.
- Review project forecasts and identify financial risks while recommending mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, procurement, and operations to support budgeting, scheduling, and project execution.
- Monitor project performance to ensure budgets, timelines, and financial objectives are achieved.
- Develop and maintain recurring project status reports for executive leadership and key stakeholders.
- Oversee project expense tracking and financial reporting throughout project development and completion.
- Support budgeting and cost estimating for future projects.
- Maintain cost databases and historical project data to improve future estimating accuracy.
- Review weekly and monthly project cost reports, labor tracking, and resource planning.
- Manage project invoices, payment applications, contract compliance, cost coding, and capital versus expense classifications.
- Review contractor payment applications, schedules of values, lien waivers, and supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve project accounting processes, reporting, and financial controls.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- CPA preferred.
- Minimum of five years of project or construction accounting experience supporting capital or construction projects.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of project budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
- Experience supporting construction, hospitality, retail, entertainment, manufacturing, or other project-based environments.
- Experience reviewing contracts, payment applications, cost coding, and project invoicing.
- Strong understanding of capital projects and project lifecycle accounting.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Workday or similar financial systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze large data sets and develop meaningful financial reports.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information to leadership.
- Ability to build strong relationships across Finance, Operations, Project Management, and external vendors.
- Experience with project management or cost management software is a plus.
