Job summary

The Douglaston Companies in Douglaston, NY is seeking a Project Accountant II to manage the accounting lifecycle of highly complex construction projects, reporting to the Controller. The role demands proficiency, accuracy, and strong communication to support internal and external stakeholders.

You will handle general ledger and subsidiary reports, multi-project accounting, cash flow monitoring, closeouts, and variance analysis, with a focus on accuracy and process improvement in a hybrid work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 6–9 years of Accounting/Finance experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills (Excel Certified preferred).
  • Sage Intacct and Procore a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understand accounting procedures, general ledger and subsidiary reports.
  • Create complex reports with internal and external parties.
  • Analyze multi-project accounting reporting for various owners and agencies.
  • Monitor project cash flow and revenue, resolve variances.
  • Review budget vs. actual reports for quarterly analysis.
  • Reconcile project costs and classifications of billing deferrals.
  • Support training and development of junior team members.

We invest in your personal and professional growth because we know that when our people succeed, we all succeed.What you will do:Overall understanding of accounting procedures, general ledger and subsidiary reportsProficient in understanding financial sections within contract documentsAbility to create complex reports collaboratively with internal and external partiesExperience in multi project accounting reporting requirements of various sizes, stages of life cycle with various owner and agency reporting requirementsTimely processing of reports including project and subcontractor closeout efficiently and accuratelyMonitor projects actual vs budget reporting for variances with the foresight and ability to deep dive and provide the team with constructive feedback and guidance.Review ACR & budget vs actual monthly general conditions report for quarterly analysisReconcile and properly classify project cost and billing deferral based on project type and preconstruction agreementIdentify areas of improvement to assist in accuracy of reporting as well as efficiency providing potential solutions.Create, review and monitor project cash flow and revenue assisting in resolving any variancesExperience in analyzing and projecting revenue and expenses over the lifecycle of general contract projectsAbility to review and understand trade billing rate schedules when requested by the project teamAssist with training and development of new, current, jr and project account I level team membersPerforms task independentlyDemonstrated leadership abilityWhat you should have:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred6-9 years of Accounting/Finance experienceAdvanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel (Excel Certified preferred)Sage Intacct and Procore a +Must possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, strong analytical skillsMust be highly organized with attention to details, results oriented and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment with changing prioritiesAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and writtenAbility to safely navigate a construction site which includes the following: climbing ladders and stairs, use of job hoists, inclement weather conditions, hazardous/cluttered and dark area, etc.Salary Range:The pay range for this role is $98,000 to $120,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
