Job summary

Addison Group is seeking a skilled Project Accountant for construction-focused billing and financial control in Virginia. You will set up and manage projects in accounting systems, collaborate with Project Managers on budgets, and track costs, billing, and revenue to ensure accurate financial performance.

You will oversee the full billing cycle, review contracts for terms alignment, and monitor AR with timely collections.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of project accounting experience in construction.
• AS or BS degree preferred but not required.
• Strong in Excel; construction systems experience (Procore, Sage, etc.) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain new projects in accounting and project management systems.
• Partner with Project Managers on budgets, cost coding, forecasting, and financial tracking.
• Monitor project costs, commitments, change orders, revenue, and overall financial performance.
• Process approved change orders and ensure accurate, timely customer billing.
• Manage the full billing cycle, including AIA, progress, lump-sum, T&M, and final/closeout invoices.
• Review contracts to ensure billing aligns with payment terms, schedules, and project requirements.
• Maintain billing records in Sage Intacct and customer billing portals.
• Monitor accounts receivable and follow up with customers on outstanding payments.
• Prepare lien waivers, affidavits, and other required billing documentation.
• Coordinate with AP to ensure vendor and subcontractor costs are accurately recorded and allocated.
• Lead regular billing meetings with Project Managers and Operations to address billing and collection issues.
• Maintain project documentation and support project closeout activities.
• Prepare WIP schedules, billing reports, AR aging reports, and collection updates.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close, financial analysis, and resolution of billing discrepancies.
