Job summary

Opti Staffing Group is seeking a Project Accountant to join our Portland, Oregon team onsite. The role focuses on construction project accounting, job costing, and closeout support, reporting to the Controller and owners.

You will collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure accurate financial data and adherence to budgets. Ideal candidates have hands-on Viewpoint and Procore experience, payroll expertise, and a proven ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Support construction project accounting from setup to closeout, maintaining accurate financial records and job cost information.
• Collaborate with Controller and owners to provide timely accounting information.
• Track project costs, review expenses, and resolve discrepancies.
• Process payroll and ensure labor costs are correctly assigned to projects.
• Prepare certified payroll reports and supporting docs for applicable projects.
• Track and process change orders and reflect them in budgets and billing.
• Use Viewpoint and Procore to maintain project financial information and documentation.
• Support project billing, AP/AR, reconciliations, and month-end activities.
• Monitor outstanding items and follow up with team members, subs, and vendors.
• Identify process improvements as the company grows while maintaining cross-department communication.

What You’ll Do

• Support construction project accounting from project setup through closeout, maintaining accurate financial records and job cost information.
• Work directly with the Controller and owners to provide timely accounting information and support financial decisions.
• Partner with project managers and field teams to track project costs, review expenses, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Process payroll, review timekeeping information, and ensure labor costs are accurately assigned to the appropriate projects and cost codes.
• Prepare and maintain certified payroll reports and supporting documentation for applicable projects.
• Track and process change orders, ensuring approved changes are accurately reflected in project budgets, contracts, and billing.
• Use Viewpoint and Procore to maintain project financial information and coordinate accounting documentation.
• Support project billing, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and month-end activities.
• Monitor outstanding accounting items and follow through with coworkers, subcontractors, and vendors to keep information complete and current.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes as the company grows while maintaining strong communication across departments.

What You Need to Have

• Construction accounting experience with a solid understanding of job costing and project financial management.
• Hands-on experience with both Viewpoint and Procore—required.
• Payroll processing and certified payroll experience—required.
• Experience tracking and processing construction change orders—required.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records across multiple projects and competing deadlines.
• Confidence working independently, organizing your workload, and following tasks through to completion.
• A proactive approach: you recognize what needs attention, ask thoughtful questions, and take action.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with accounting, operations, leadership, and field personnel.
• Proficiency with Excel and comfort learning and improving accounting workflows.
• Ability to work onsite in the company's Portland office.
