Job summary

PayneCrest Electric, Inc. in Saint Louis, MO is seeking a Project Accountant to manage the financial aspects of construction projects from setup through close-out, partnering with Project Managers and Operations to ensure accurate job costing, timely billing, and budget control.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of construction accounting experience, a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and proficiency with Vista or similar accounting software. Travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain project records, including budgets, cost codes, billing terms, and contract requirements.
• Monitor project costs, job profitability, and budget-to-actual variances; prepare job cost reports and support financial analysis.
• Review and process project-related labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor costs for accuracy and proper coding.
• Prepare and distribute customer invoices, including AIA billings, supporting documentation, and compliance with contract requirements.
• Manage retainage receivables and payables and ensure accurate revenue recognition and invoice recording.
• Process subcontractors pay applications and vendor invoices while maintaining required insurance, lien waivers, and compliance documentation.
• Reconcile accounts payable records, resolve vendor inquiries, and assist with committed cost tracking and cash flow forecasting.
• Support month-end close activities, maintain audit-ready financial records, and ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies.
• Partner with Project Managers and Operations teams to provide financial guidance, respond to accounting inquiries, and improve project accounting processes.
• Perform additional duties as directed by accounting leaders

PROJECT ACCOUNTANT

We are seeking a motivated and confident Project Accountant to join our accounting team. The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects from setup through close-out. QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience.
• Construction accounting experience is required.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Vista or similiar)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to Assistant Controller

LOCATION:

St. Louis, MO (Will require 20% travel to Lincoln, NE)
