Job summary

Frederick Fox LLC is seeking a Project Accountant to manage project financial activities across commercial construction and pavement maintenance projects. You will handle job costing, invoicing, AP/AR, and reporting to support profitability.

The role collaborates with project managers and field teams to monitor costs, maintain accurate records, and ensure timely billing and cost control across multiple projects and locations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience in construction, paving, maintenance, or project-based industries.
• Experience with job costing, project billing, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Sage or similar ERP system.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Track project costs, maintain budgets and cost codes, monitor expenditures, and prepare job cost reports.
• Prepare accurate customer invoices, verify completed work and supporting documentation, monitor accounts receivable, and follow up on overdue payments.
• Review and process vendor and subcontractor invoices, verify expenses, and ensure costs are allocated to the correct projects.
• Monitor project revenue, costs, and gross margins; identify cost variances, unbilled work, and opportunities to improve profitability.
• Maintain project contracts, purchase orders, and change orders, ensuring additional work is properly documented and billed.
• Assist with month-end close, account reconciliations, accruals, work-in-progress reporting, and project financial statements.
• Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and operations teams to provide timely financial information and support project cost control.
• Maintain accurate records, follow internal controls, and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting across multiple locations.

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing project financial activities, including job costing, customer billing, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting. This role works closely with project managers, operations teams, and field personnel to monitor project costs, maintain accurate financial records, and support profitability across commercial construction and pavement maintenance projects.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in project-based accounting, with the ability to support multiple projects and locations while contributing to efficient operations and cost-effective customer solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Accounting: Track project costs, maintain budgets and cost codes, monitor expenditures, and prepare job cost reports and budget-to-actual analyses.
• Billing and Collections: Prepare accurate customer invoices, verify completed work and supporting documentation, monitor accounts receivable, and follow up on overdue payments.

• Experience with job costing, project billing, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Sage or similar erp system is required.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively with both accounting and field operations teams.
• Strong attention to detail and financial accuracy.
• Strong understanding of project costs and profitability.
• Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Proactive approach to resolving discrepancies and improving processes.
