Job summary

Animal Place seeks a Programs Director to provide strategic leadership for its programs, outreach, and communications. You will translate organizational priorities into impactful initiatives, supervise a small remote/onsite team, and collaborate across departments to expand advocacy and education.

The role requires hands-on leadership, budgeting, and the ability to drive measurable results while representing the organization at events and coalitions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of experience advancing programs, public policy, education, advocacy, or a related field.
• 2+ years supervising staff.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategy and translate goals into actionable plans.
• Experience leading remote or distributed teams.
• Commitment to Animal Place’s mission and vegan living is a plus.
• Experience in advocacy, public education, and behavior-change strategy.
• Experience building partnerships across organizations.
• Experience managing program budgets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; professional representation to partners and policymakers.
• Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
• Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, and travel.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and oversight for programs, policy, outreach, communications, and community engagement, including events, education, and volunteer programs.
• Lead and grow the Food for Thought program, expanding partnerships and national reach.
• Identify opportunities to influence policy, public attitudes, and practices.
• Track legislation and policy developments and advise engagement strategies.
• Build relationships with advocacy organizations, coalitions, policymakers, and community leaders.
• Coordinate supporter participation in lobby days, hearings, petitions, and public comments.
• Set measurable goals for reach and impact and refine programs accordingly.
• Oversee program planning, budgets, timelines, and resources with staff and leadership.
• Represent Animal Place at conferences, meetings, and events; speak publicly as needed.
