Job summary

Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, NJ seeks an experienced Programming Director to oversee all booking and coordination of MPAC events, spanning pop/contemporary, theatre, comedy, lecture, film, jazz, classical, Latin, dance, family, and education programs.

The role requires strong negotiation with agents, contract management, budgeting, and cross-department liaison, with nights and weekends as needed; in-person work at our 1300-seat venue.

Qualifications

  • Experience in booking and negotiating with agents and artist management.
  • Knowledge of artist agreements/riders and contracts.
  • Ability to liaise with guest attractions and community events.
  • Strategic planning for the department and staff oversight.
  • Detail oriented, organized and able to multitask under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

Mayo Performing Arts Center, a 1300-seat 501(c)(3) non-profit performing arts center located in Morristown, NJ, seeks an experienced Programming Director to oversee all booking and coordination of MPAC events. The Programming Director will be responsible for researching and booking all mainstage events, which include genres such as pop/contemporary, theatre, comedy, lecture, film, jazz, classical, Latin, dance, as well as family, education and field trip events, mission driven sustainable programs and services, and other attractions, as it relates to the goals and objectives outlined in the organization’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities
  • Artist research, booking and negotiations
  • Contract administration and oversight
  • Development of program budgets
  • Oversight of event settlements, generating and evaluating reports
  • Management and coordination of programming calendar and other duties as they relate to events presented at the venue
  • Serve as liaison with various departments to coordinate various event details
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Experience and extensive knowledge in all genres of music, the performing arts, cultural and arts-driven programming for non-profit arts organizations
  • Experience in negotiating and working with agents and artist management
  • Knowledge of and experience with artist agreements/contracts/riders
  • Liaison with guest attractions
  • Liaison and coordination with Community Engagement events and initiatives
  • Strategic planning for the department and oversight of the department’s operations and staff
  • Detail oriented, organized and have the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to work under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively with good judgement and decision-making in a shared working space
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, customer service, written, proofreading and communication skills
  • Computer skills are also essential, with experience in CRM Software (Tessitura preferred), project management and database software, as well as proficiency with all Microsoft Office platforms
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends when needed. Prior settlement experience is required
