Job summary

The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking a mid- to senior-level Programmer-IT Applications to design, develop, implement, and maintain software serving the Court and its partners.

You will work under the IT Deputy Director of Application Development to deliver reliable, scalable software using Microsoft technologies and collaborate across teams to meet business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Three or more years of experience in applications development.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft development technologies.
  • Experience developing and managing Microsoft SQL databases preferred.
  • Data analytics: interpret and leverage data insights.
  • Project coordination: manage application development projects, prioritise workloads, estimate work time.
  • Strong communication: interact with supervisor, co-workers, justices, attorneys and/or the public.
  • Clear, concise written communication.
  • Judgement, decisiveness and creativity in information evaluation.
  • Creativity in UI component design to meet business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project management to refine software requirements.
  • Create products to visualize and communicate software designs and develop solutions using modern technologies.
  • Create technical documentation to support maintenance.
  • Track and manage source code changes using version control.
  • Design and create database structures with DBAs (tables, procedures, views, functions).
  • Test software solutions for reliability.
  • Monitor operation, provide end-user support, and develop patches.
  • Train court staff in the use of applications.
  • Ensure code quality through reviews and best practices.
  • Serve as IT liaison to designated court offices under supervision.

What You'll Do
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with project management team to refine technical software requirements.
  • Software Development: Create products to visualize and communicate software designs. Efficiently develop software solutions in accordance with project requirements using modern development technologies and JavaScript libraries, either individually or as part of a team. Provide effective resources and time estimates for designed solutions
  • Documentation: Create technical documentation to support the maintenance of developed solutions.
  • Source Code Management: Track and manage source code changes in a team environment using source control management tools.
  • Database Design: Collaborate with database administrators and other analysts to design and create database structures including tables, procedures, views, and functions.
  • Quality Assurance: Thoroughly test software solutions for reliability.
  • Software Support: Monitor the operation of software solutions, provide support to end users, and develop software patches ensuring proper operation.
  • Training: Train and support court staff members in the use of developed applications.
  • Code Review: Through code review, ensure that software products adhere to best practices.
  • IT Liaison: Work under supervision as an IT liaison to designated court offices.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Three or more years of experience required in an applications development discipline.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft development technologies.

  • Creativity: Ability to design effective and efficient user interface components of applications that meet business requirements.
