Job summary
Resources for Human Development is hiring a Program Specialist to support Missouri Shared Living participants, focusing on health, safety and independence. The role collaborates with families, staff, and providers to implement ISPs and ensure high-quality services.
You'll coordinate care, maintain documentation, and assist with training, regulatory compliance, and financial matters while advocating for the needs and goals of the people we serve.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or above with at least 1 year of relevant experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience; or
- Associate’s degree with 4 years of relevant experience; or
- High school diploma with 6 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Support health, safety, growth, and well-being of individuals in the Shared Living program.
- Coordinate and monitor ISPs and ensure goals and outcomes are implemented.
- Maintain accurate documentation including medical records, ISPs, and incident reports.
- Schedule medical, dental, psychiatric, and psychological services per requirements.
- Advocate for individuals and collaborate with families and providers.
- Train and supervise direct care staff and Independent Contractors.
- Assist with incident reporting and corrective action.
- Help coordinate financial matters such as SSI and benefits.
- Monitor program sites for safety, upkeep, documentation, and compliance needs.
- Assist with staff training requirements to maintain compliance.
- Respond to crisis situations and report medical or safety concerns.
- Assist with transitioning individuals into or out of the program and opening new homes.

As a Program Specialist, you will:
- Support the health, safety, growth, and overall well-being of individuals participating in the Shared Living program.
- Coordinate and monitor Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and ensure individual goals, objectives, and outcomes are appropriately implemented.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including medical records, assessments, ISPs, progress notes, incident reports, and other required program records.
- Ensure individuals' medical, dental, psychiatric, and psychological services are scheduled in accordance with applicable requirements and provider recommendations.
- Advocate for individuals and collaborate with families, support coordinators, behavior consultants, day programs, medical providers, and other members of the support team.
- Train, support, supervise, and provide guidance to direct care staff and/or Independent Contractors regarding ISPs, implementation strategies, and documentation.
- Assist with incident reporting, follow-up, corrective action, and other regulatory requirements.
- Help coordinate individual financial matters, including SSI, food benefits, representative payee matters, room and board agreements, and other applicable benefits.
- Monitor program sites for safety, upkeep, documentation, and compliance needs.
- Assist with managing and tracking staff training requirements to maintain compliance with state and funder regulations.
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations and report medical or safety concerns to program leadership.
- Assist with transitioning individuals into or out of the program and opening new homes as needed.

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
- Master’s degree or above from an accredited college or university and at least 1 year of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism; or
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least 2 years of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism; or
- Associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours from an accredited college or university and at least 4 years of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism; or
- High school diploma and at least 6 years of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism.
Additional requirements include:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to maintain a minimum of 24 hours of in-service training per calendar year
- Current driver's license, vehicle registration, and access to a functional vehicle
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable HIPAA, safety, and program requirements
- Special Education background
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to sit, stand, reach, bend, stoop, twist, and climb steps as required
- Ability to drive a vehicle as part of job responsibilities
- Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
