Job summary

Resources for Human Development (RHD) in Missouri is seeking a compassionate Program Specialist to support individuals with intellectual disabilities or autism in our Shared Living program.

You will coordinate ISPs, ensure compliance, and advocate for participant goals while documenting thoroughly and collaborating with families, staff, and providers. Domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or above with experience in intellectual disability/autism services or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Associate degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• High school diploma with 6+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the health, safety, growth, and well-being of individuals in the Shared Living program.
• Coordinate and monitor ISPs and ensure goals and outcomes are implemented.
• Maintain accurate documentation: medical records, ISPs, progress notes, incident reports.
• Schedule medical, dental, psychiatric, and psychological services per requirements.
• Advocate for individuals and collaborate with families, coordinators, and providers.
• Train and supervise staff and independent contractors on ISPs and documentation.
• Assist with incident reporting, corrective action, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage individual financial matters (SSI, benefits, room/board).
• Monitor sites for safety, upkeep, and compliance; track training requirements.
• Respond to crises and report safety concerns to leadership.
• Assist with transitions into/out of the program and opening new homes.

What You’ll Do

As a Program Specialist, you will:

• Support the health, safety, growth, and overall well-being of individuals participating in the Shared Living program.
• Coordinate and monitor Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and ensure individual goals, objectives, and outcomes are appropriately implemented.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including medical records, assessments, ISPs, progress notes, incident reports, and other required program records.
• Ensure individuals’ medical, dental, psychiatric, and psychological services are scheduled in accordance with applicable requirements and provider recommendations.
• Advocate for individuals and collaborate with families, support coordinators, behavior consultants, day programs, medical providers, and other members of the support team.
• Train, support, supervise, and provide guidance to direct care staff and/or Independent Contractors regarding ISPs, implementation strategies, and documentation.
• Assist with incident reporting, follow-up, corrective action, and other regulatory requirements.
• Help coordinate individual financial matters, including SSI, food benefits, representative payee matters, room and board agreements, and other applicable benefits.
• Monitor program sites for safety, upkeep, documentation, and compliance needs.
• Assist with managing and tracking staff training requirements to maintain compliance with state and funder regulations.
• Respond appropriately to crisis situations and report medical or safety concerns to program leadership.
• Assist with transitioning individuals into or out of the program and opening new homes as needed.

Qualifications

Required

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:

• Master’s degree or above from an accredited college or university and at least 1 year of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism; or
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least 2 years of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism; or
• Associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours from an accredited college or university and at least 4 years of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism; or
• High school diploma and at least 6 years of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism.

Additional requirements include:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to maintain a minimum of 24 hours of in-service training per calendar year
• Current driver’s license, vehicle registration, and access to a functional vehicle
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable HIPAA, safety, and program requirements

Preferred

• Special Education background
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, reach, bend, stoop, twist, and climb steps as required
• Ability to drive a vehicle as part of job responsibilities
• Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
