Job summary

The State of Wyoming’s Department of Environmental Quality seeks a capable supervisor to manage the SMURP within the Land Quality Division in Cheyenne. This role focuses on regulating uranium recovery and source material facilities to protect health and the environment.

The position oversees SMURP staff, coordinates licensing processes, and collaborates with legislators, agencies, and the public. Requires a science degree and experience in environmental regulation; extensive travel is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in natural or environmental sciences or engineering.
  • 3-5 years progressive work experience in the sciences with supervisory exposure.
  • Willingness to travel and represent the program publicly.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee SMURP staff and manage licensing processes.
  • Coordinate enforcement actions and bond forfeiture proceedings.
  • Develop and revise policies, budget, and staffing plans.
  • Provide project management for special initiatives and research results.
  • Present findings and participate in hearings and public meetings.
  • Coordinate training and staff development within the division.
